Livingston and District Dolphins achieve Swimark Plus

The club were informed by Scottish Swimming on 10 July that we have bee awarded the highly acclaimed swiMark plus accreditation. The award demonstrates that the club are leading the way in setting new standards for swimming in the community including strong coaching and effective management structures.

swiMark is Scottish Swimming's national quality accreditation programme for clubs and swim schools. swiMark plus is the highest accreditation awarded and successful achievement confirms that LDD has demonstrated a commitment to creating a sustainable swimming development pathway, operates a safe, effective and child friendly club whilst providing a service in the community that children and young people, their parents/carers, and others with an interest in swimming can trust.

LDD are the first swimming club in Scotland to have both its Learn to Swim Programme and Development Section swiMark plus accredited.

The Dolphins Swim School achieved swiMark plus on 27th April 2013. Two representatives from Scottish swimming, Mandy Church (National Business Manager) and Sarah Pryde-Smith (Regional Swimming Development Manager) visited the swim school to meet with Head Teacher Thomas Harkins.

Michael Harkins, Deputy Head Teacher said: "The swim school is the first to achieve swiMark plus! This is a great achievement for the swim school! This now sets us apart from other swim schools in West Lothian and Scotland, as one of the best! Just because we have achieved swiMark plus, does not mean we will stop there, we will continue to push ourselves to remain at the top of our game"

Thomas Harkins remarked: "It is amazing to think of our progression; in 2011 we only registered as a swim school. In 2012 we gained swiMark, and now we have gained swiMark plus! It's fantastic news for the swim school and the club. What of next year? Hopefully we will continue to shine. We will continue to provide the best lessons we can. Through good management practices, it is much easier for everything else to fall into place"

The Development section of the club is aiming to have swiMark plus following the summer. If achieved the Dolphins will be the only club in Scotland to have both its Learn to Swim Programme and Development section swiMark plus accredited.

Dolphins Make a Splash!

Over the last year LDD have been competing in the Splash League along with teams from Fauldhouse Penguins, Aquanauts, Broxburn, Trojans and Bathgate. The events have been organised and run by Swim West Lothian.

The fourth and final event was held on Friday 11 January in St Margaret's. Over the 4 events Big G selected a lot of swimmers to represent the club and their hard work and determination paid off.
